welcome to fashion show

fashion show is a secondhand fashion company made by grace ricard (me hi.) i’m using what i have to share my love of fashion and do some good within my community, a dream that's been, in theory, 26 years in the making. more realistically though i've been working on this project since 2022:)

fashion show is also a way to sustain my other creative work (acting, directing, songwriting, etc.) because while my job paying the bills as a substitute teacher is truly as close as i've ever been to having a dream job, i've always wanted to build something of my own and leave the real teachers to the classrooms. speaking of, shout-out to my dad who just started his 35th year of teaching! honestly side tangent but both of my parents are the reason behind any accomplishment i have ever made in this life, thanks ma and pa i love you both more than life itself and i owe it all to you<3

anyway divas, this is what you’ll find on here (for now, more coming soon):

1.) thrifting

second-hand gems sourced from dollar racks, free piles, and items you passed on after seeing the button is missing and the strap is ripped. i repair them + sell here (under the “thrift” tab) starting monday september 17th. it will be like an online thrift store with actual low thrift store prices, pinky promise with my bent little broken pinky. come back soon!!! plz!!!

2.) g

g is the name of my handmade and 100% upcycled clothing line! it came from years of falling in love with craft projects at the lake with my auntie bonnie, doing model walks with my siblings down the hallway during the commercial breaks of america's next top model, and learning how to use a sewing machine in 7th grade home economics.

my home ec teacher (shout-out mrs. manum) saw how much i loved the sewing unit and encouraged me to take home whatever i wanted from the scrap fabric drawers because our school was cutting home economics (a CRIMINAL decision). i took so much fabric home that it lasted me for YEARS i probably still have some of it stashed somewhere. that summer, i used the scrap fabric and tried sewing clothes for my american girl dolls (yes at the ripe age of middle school honestly mind your business i will never stop playing with dolls.) i was using a VERY broken thrifted sewing machine that genuinely sounded like someone was using a chainsaw lol it was so ridiculous i giggle whenever I think of someone watching TV downstairs and me just BLASTING away on that sewing machine upstairs while watching project runway on my blue ipod touch. anyway, even though the polka dot 3-tiered ruffle skirt i made for my doll kit kittredge that summer did NOT win any ribbons in the county fair that i entered into, i had fallen in love with sewing and could not be stopped. in college i learned to sew on an actual working sewing machine by logging several extra credit hours sewing for our theatre department's costume shop (a fever dream) and after years of making upcycled clothing for myself, i'm now making some for others as a way to support my community and myself! the brand is called g and my first ever collection is live now under the "g" tab.

i have lots of pieces made and ready to be released as mini collections, but decided to wait on releasing those and instead make my first collection be one that represents what fashion is all about: a protest. fashion has historically been used to make a statement, and i have a very strong and simple statement regarding the current ICE raids in los angeles. 100% of profits from this line will go to CHIRLA, an organization supporting immigrant families in LA affected by ICE raids. living here has changed my life and now people in the city that myself and so many love are being taken off the streets. buying a shirt will give an almost 30 dollar donation to a trusted non-profit organization AND give you a piece of clothing that can be worn around your city as a way to protest and show your community that they are not alone.

all of the fun and cute and whimsical pieces that i made are coming but for now, please consider purchasing something from this abolish ice line and just support this cause however you can, whether that be financially or through donating your time or resources to your community in some way. what you do truly matters so girl get up and do something.

thanks for being here and checking out my brand

everything comes from something else. we're a collection of who we've met and where we've been. same with fashion show, all of my materials come reused from somewhere — thrift stores, stolen from my siblings, and items found in my own stash of leftover supplies from projects i've made over the years. it feels so mega cheesy to type everything out and release an actual clothing line/fashion company but just know it's truly the start of something new (cue troy + gabriela singing track #1 at karaoke night.)

so to recap/TLDR: fashion show = affordable thrifting + an upcycled clothing line called "g" + more coming. click around girl. lmk if you need anything and hi love you (except for a few of you<3)
